Enjoy the beauty of art and gardens in this spacious building.
The museum houses and exhibits old Japanese and East Asian art works collected by Ryuhei (Kayuki) Murayama, founder of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper. The highlight of the exhibition is “Nakanoshima Gen'an,” a full-scale reproduction of the “Gen'an” tearoom built in the former Murayama Family Residence, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. The permanent exhibit is a must-see, reproducing the entire space, including the garden and open-air space attached to the tea house, even though it is located inside the building. In recent years, the museum has also held ambitious special exhibitions of works by Monet and Katsushika Hokusai. The museum offers visitors the chance to experience art in a tranquil space that one would not expect to find inside a high-rise building in the heart of the city.
