Nagasaki Saruku, the way of enjoying Nagasaki by city walk with a guide.
“Saruku” is a dialect of Nagasaki meaning stroll around the town. As “Nagasaki Saruku”, a variety of town tours are in place and carried out by guides and town-strolling groups. Buildings and bridges remained in the town — retrospecting forerunners who spent time there will be sure to let you feel how attractive Nagasaki is. Even renowned tourist sites and places you have once visited show you different aspects if you walk though them with knowledgeable local guides.
How to join
Visit official Nagasaki Saruku website to apply. Every tour takes place every day with minimum participants of two. For those starting at 10:00 a.m., reservation closes at 5:00 p.m. of the day before the tour, and for those starting at 2:00 p.m., 10:00 a.m. of the day of the tour.

Tour to the Tojin Yashiki (Chinese residence) and Shinchi Chinese Town, one of the three major Chinese towns in Japan, which symbolize a Chinese facet of Nagasaki’s culture that is a mixture of Japanese, Chinese and Dutch cultures. The two-hour tour lets you find the roots of Chinese culture still alive in Nagasaki including touring through four halls preserved at the Tojin Yashiki, and learning about then Chinese lifestyle, dietary culture, and annual events.

In this tour, you will be guided through the World Heritage, Glover Garden, whose historical buildings and mansions were relocated and restored, such as the residence of Thomas Blake Glover, a trader who came to Nagasaki at the dawn of opening of Japan in the last days of Tokugawa shogunate. We will show you what Sakamoto Ryoma did and how he made his name in Nagasaki. You walk through his bases and places associated with him like four representative Ryoma statues left in Nagasaki City and Kameyama Shachu, the first tranding company in Japan.
Enjoy the episodes of Ryoma, who ran through the end of Edo Period, and the back stories about Nagasaki that influenced his fate.

This tour covers three zones and Urakami Cathedral: the center of atomic bombing where atomic-bombed ruins are left (zone for praying), Peace Park (zone for wishing), and Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for Atomic Bomb Victims (zone for learning). We will navigate through hidden spots around Glover Garden, Oura Cathedral and other Nagasaki’s representative tourist sites.
