An ancient shrine standing along the Uji-gawa River
An ancient shrine said to have been built in the Heian period. The enshrined deity is Todo no Wakarako no Mikoto, and he is said to be the model of Hachi no Miya, who appears in The Tale of Genji. The main hall, built in the Sangensha nagare-zukuri style, is said to have been built in the early Kamakura period. The main hall in the photo houses a wooden seated statue of Todo Wakairako no Mikoto. The autumn leaves in front of the main shrine are at their best from late November to early December. The main shrine is designated as an important cultural property as it was built in the early Kamakura period.
