Kyoto's best "citizen's kitchen" that even professional cooks rely on
It is said to have started with the opening of a fish market in the Enryaku era (782 ~ 806), and it was after the Edo period that the market really became crowded. Even today, there are many long-established shops that are patronized by professional chefs and people from Kyoto, and there are about 130 restaurants under the arcade that is about 390 meters from east to west. Even in summer, the water temperature of the famous water flowing under the market is 15 ~ 18 degrees Celsius, and without this water, we cannot talk about the prosperity of Nishiki. Most stores are open until evening.
