Confronted with contemporary art in a townhouse more than 100 years old
Established in Ginza in 1969 as a gallery dealing with modern and contemporary European art. Since then, "Galerie Tomonaga" has opened galleries in Paris and Osaka, and has delivered excellent works to leading museums and collectors in Japan. The Kyoto store, located in a renovated 100-year-old machiya (townhouse), mainly features works by young Japanese artists. The time spent facing the large paintings itself is extraordinary, and the peaceful location, right in front of the Kamo River, which is typical of Kyoto, is also relaxing. The exhibition is free of charge, so it is a great place to stop by when you visit Sanjusangendo or the Kyoto National Museum.
