Gorgeous weeping cherry blossoms and the highly artistic garden are must-see
It was founded in Keicho 11 (1606) by Kita no Mandokoro, the lawful wife of Hideyoshi TOYOTOMI. It has many important cultural properties such as the Kangetsudai that was moved from Fushimi-jo Castle and the mausoleum decorated with Kodaiji makie. The carefully designed gardens such as the Chisen Kaiyu style garden surrounding the Kaisan-do hall and the Karesansui garden called "Hashin-tei" in the hojo of the main hall are also a highlight.
The Garyu Pond, which connects the Kaisan-do Hall and the mausoleum, reflects the vivid autumn leaves, creating an even more gorgeous atmosphere.
