A Zen temple of the largest scale in Japan with many unique sub-temples.
It was founded in 1337. It is the head temple of the Myoshin-ji School of the Rinzai Sect, with 46 sub-temples and more than 3000 branch temples worldwide. It is 500 meters from east to west, 600 meters from north to south, and the site is 100,000 tsubo, so it is very large. The Unryu-zu seen on the ceiling of the lecture hall is a masterpiece drawn by Kano Tanyu over a period of eight years. It is also called 'Happo nirami-no Ryu,' because the eyes meet from every angle.
