正寿院 vol19 巻頭特集

The scene filled with 160 paintings is overwhelming

This temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect is said to have been founded about 800 years ago. The temple is dotted with photogenic spots such as windows with “inome” motifs and floral ceiling paintings depicting flowers and Japanese landscapes.

It was painted in 2017 as a reconstruction of the Edo period ceiling paintings in the inner sanctuary of the main hall. The theme is “Flowers and Japanese Scenery,” and includes paintings of maiko (apprentice geisha) in spring, summer, fall, and winter.
