An old shrine where the air of the forest from before Christ and the elegance of the city are harmonized
It is one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto. The official year of construction is unknown, but according to one theory, the temple's origin lies in the descent of Kamotaketsunumi no Mikoto to Mikage-yama Mountain at the western foot of Mt. Hiei during the reign of the first Emperor Jinmu. The shrine enshrines Kamotaketsunumi no Mikoto, the founder of ancient Kyoto, and Tamayorihime no Mikoto, the mother of Kamowakeikazuchi no Mikoto, the enshrined deity of Kamigamo-jinja Shrine, as its two main shrines.
