A famous temple representing Kyoto that has 1200 years of history and nature
It is the head temple of the Northern Hosso Sect with nearly 30 temple buildings on the middle of Mt. Otowa. It is said to have been founded by Enchin Shonin in 778 (Hoki 9) and founded by SAKANOUE no Tamuramaro in 798 (Enryaku 17). It is the No. 16 pilgrim stamp office of the 33 Temples of Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. In addition to the main hall famous for "Kiyomizu no Butai", there are many other attractions such as the Nio-mon Gate, the three-storied pagoda and Otowa Falls.
The photo shows a three-storied pagoda that was built in the early Heian period and rebuilt in 1632. A statue of Dainichi Nyorai (Mahavairocana) is enshrined inside.
