Shorakugama

昭楽窯 vol19 保証協会

Born in Kyoto Tea utensils for “Chanoyu“

The kiln opened in 1905 and has been producing Raku ware tea bowls since then. Raku ware is a type of pottery created by Sen no Rikyu at the end of the 16th century as tea bowls for the tea ceremony. It is characterized by its special manufacturing method of firing at a high temperature of 1200°C for as short a time as 3 minutes, and by the use of a spatula and hands to create shapes without using a wheel. Since every bowl is one-of-a-kind, you are sure to find your own original tea bowl.

Because Raku ware tea bowls are fired in a short period of time, heat is not transferred easily and they do not cool down easily. It is a specialized container for enjoying tea.
