It was destroyed by fi re during the town period, but was rebuilt by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The highlight is the floral ceiling painting, said to have been a favorite of Yoshimitsu, in which seasonal flowers can be seen.

In the late Edo period (1603-1868), the painter Ayato Kanejiro Fujiwara no Makoto painted gorgeous flowers such as mountain cherry blossoms, peonies, narcissus, and irises on the ceiling of the inner sanctum of the main shrine.
