Sending handmade“Sakai” knives to the world
Sakai Hocho (Sakai Knives) in Sakai, Osaka, have gained much trust by many Japanese cuisine chefs. All the processes are done by hand by craftsmen, and the area is famous for its “single-edged knives,” which require particularly advanced techniques. Jikko Hamono, founded in Sakai in 1900, off ers knives for all kinds of uses. The Pontocho store in Kyoto opened in April 2023, and the Nishiki Teramachi store in Kyoto opened in January 2024. Both stores have 100 types of knives, as well as high-end knives, custom blades, and handles. While ordinary knives need to be sharpened before use, since Jikko Hamono was originally a company that makes a living by polishing and sharpening, the knives are already “sharpened” when you buy; thus, Jikko Hamono are appreciated by tourists as “ready-to-use-knives”.
