Sending handmade“ Sakai” knives to the world
Sakai Hocho (Sakai Knives) in Sakai, Osaka, have gained much trust by many Japanese cuisine chefs. All the processes are done by hand by craftsmen, and the area is famous for its “single-edged knives,” which require particularly advanced techniques. Jikko Hamono, founded in Sakai in 1900, offers knives for all kinds of uses. And on April 2023, Pontocho store in Kyoto was opened.
The fi rst fl oor displays100 types of knives, while the second floor displays high-end knives and custom blades and handles. While ordinary knives need to be sharpened before use, since Jikko Hamono was originally a company that makes a living by polishing and sharpening, the knives are
already “sharpened” when you buy; thus, Jikko Hamono are appreciated by tourists as “ready-to-use-knives”.
